DR. MARTY TRAYLOR

Optometrist

Dr. Marty S. Traylor is originally from Nebo, Kentucky, where he graduated from West Hopkins High School. He attended Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green, Kentucky and then received his Doctor of Optometry degree from Southern College of Optometry located in Memphis, Tennessee, graduating in 2000 with the honor of Magna Cum Laude.

Dr. Traylor joined the Owensboro Family Eye Care Center practice in February 2004. He and his wife Laryssa have three children, Rachel (2004), Jack (2007) and Meredith (2008) have lived in Owensboro since 2000. His special interests include contact lenses, sports vision, co-managing LASIK and other refractive procedures, and ocular diseases such as glaucoma and co-managing cataract surgery.

Dr. Traylor is a member of both the American and Kentucky Optometric Associations. He has been a past Lions club and Rotary International member. He is currently an active member of the Owensboro Chamber of Commerce.

DR. STEVEN SHAKE

Optometrist

Dr. Steven Shake is originally from Washington, Indiana. He attended Vincennes University and Indiana University, and is a 1989 graduate of The Illinois College of Optometry in Chicago, Illinois. He completed clinical externships at Chicago Osteopathic Hospital and The Illinois Eye Institute in Chicago, Illinois. His specialty interests includes contact lenses and sports vision, and co-manages LASIK and other refractive surgeries along with cataract surgery.

Dr. Shake practiced in central and southern Indiana for three years before coming to Owensboro in 1992.

Dr. Shake is married to Joanna Davis Shake who has been with the Green River Area Development District (GRADD) since 1994 and serves as Director of Economic Development. They have a daughter, Riley; a son, Connor; and a goldendoodle puppy named Mayberry.

Dr. Shake enjoys living in Owensboro and working with patients from Daviess and surrounding counties.

DR. DAVEA HORTON

Optometrist

Dr. Davea Horton is originally from Owensboro, Kentucky. She graduated from Daviess County High School in 1997 and in 2001 received her bachelor’s degree in science, with a major in Biology and a minor in Chemistry, from Kentucky Wesleyan College in Owensboro. Dr. Horton received her Doctor of Optometry degree in 2005 from Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana.

Dr. Horton completed clinical externships at Atwater Eye Care Center and Community Eye Care Center in Bloomington, Indiana, Ireland Army Hospital in Fort Knox, Kentucky, Indianapolis Eye Care Center, and Eyecare Consultants in Evansville, Indiana.

Dr. Horton joined Owensboro Family Eye Care Center after graduation from Optometry school in the summer of 2005. Dr. Horton resides in Owensboro with her husband, Clay, and son, Adam.

DR. CHRISTOPHER MEYER

Optometrist

Chris is a native of Owensboro, KY, graduating from Daviess County High School in 2007. He then pursued a bachelors degree in biology with minors in chemistry and music at Murray State University. He was accepted into the prestigious Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, TN where he graduated with Honors in the Spring of 2015. Chris now lives in Owensboro with his wife, Katie; sons, Ben and Will, his daughter, Anna Kate, and dog, Sadie. Dr. Meyer is an active member of the American Optometric Association, Indiana Optometric Association, and Kentucky Optometric Association.

From glasses and contact lenses, to lazy eyes and pink eyes, Dr. Meyer is equipped with the knowledge, skill set, and latest technology to care for all of your eye health and vision needs, and is excited to provide comprehensive eye care to all members of the family.
